This Privacy Policy explains how JCAR Development ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use MyTownView ("the Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect
Account Data
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash). You may optionally provide your role/title, organization, and town of interest.
Contact & Request Submissions
If you submit a contact form or town coverage request, we collect the information you provide (name, email, message, requested town).
Feedback
We collect feedback you submit, including star ratings, comments, and cancellation reasons, to improve the Service.
Payment Information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status but never store your credit card numbers, bank account details, or other payment credentials. See Stripe's Privacy Policy for how they handle payment data.
When you use the AI Chat feature, we log the following information tied to your account:
- Your question text
- The AI-generated answer (up to 10,000 characters)
- Tools and data sources used to answer
- Number of sources referenced
- Response time and performance metrics
- Town context and timestamp
Self-hosted AI: Our AI runs on self-hosted infrastructure using Ollama. Your questions are not sent to any third-party AI service.
Purpose: We use this data to improve answer quality, monitor system performance, debug issues, and understand how the feature is used.
Retention: AI chat logs are retained for 24 months, then anonymized or deleted.
We recommend not including sensitive personal information (Social Security numbers, financial account details, etc.) in your chat questions.
Automatically Collected Data
We use Google Analytics (GA4) and Microsoft Clarity to collect usage data such as IP address, device type, browser, pages visited, and interaction patterns. This data helps us understand how the Service is used and improve the experience.
Microsoft Clarity may record session replays — including mouse movements, clicks, and scrolling behavior — to help us identify usability issues. These recordings do not capture passwords or payment information.
How We Use Your Information

- Respond to support requests and feedback
- Improve AI chat answer quality and relevance
- Analyze usage patterns and optimize performance
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security threats
- Comply with legal obligations
Our legal bases for processing your information include: performance of a contract (providing the Service and processing payments), legitimate interests (improving the Service, analytics, security), consent (where applicable, such as cookie preferences), and compliance with legal obligations.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers as necessary to operate the Service:
- Stripe — payment processing
- Google Analytics (GA4) — website analytics
- Microsoft Clarity — session replay and heatmaps
- Slack — internal team notifications (contact submissions, feedback, and cancellation reasons are forwarded to private team channels)
We do not share your AI chat questions or answers with any third-party AI providers.
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.
Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies for:
- Session cookies — authentication and login state
- Google Analytics — pseudonymized usage tracking
- Microsoft Clarity — session recording and analytics
You can manage cookie preferences through the cookie consent banner displayed on the site.
Data Retention
- Account data — retained while your account is active, deleted upon account deletion request
- AI chat logs — 24 months, then anonymized or deleted
- Analytics data — retained per Google and Microsoft's default settings
- Payment records — retained as required for tax and legal compliance
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Request a portable copy of your data
- Withdraw consent for data processing
- Object to certain uses of your information

Data Security
We protect your data using HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, securely hashed passwords, self-hosted AI infrastructure, and database access controls. While no system is 100% secure, we take reasonable measures to safeguard your information.
Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@jcar.dev and we will promptly delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date at the top. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
