Matteson is a village in Cook and Will counties with a population of about 18,681. Named after the 10th governor of Illinois, it was platted in 1855 at the junction of the Illinois Central and Michigan Central Railroads and grew from a small German agricultural settlement into one of the south suburbs' commercial centers.
