Virgil is a tiny village in western Kane County, about 55 miles west of downtown Chicago. Incorporated in 1990 after residents organized to oppose a proposed landfill, it has a population of about 310 and is one of the smallest municipalities in Kane County. The village is a rural, agricultural community served by Kaneland CUSD 302, with no municipal police department.
